Stefan Bornac was sentenced to four and a half years in prison, with the final nine months suspended, at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court on 16 March 2023. Judge Martin Nolan imposed the sentence for assault causing serious harm to Thomas Oliver and assault causing harm to James Lightly.

Bornac pleaded guilty to both charges. The proceedings were reported on 17 March 2023.

Judge Nolan ordered €8,000 be handed to Oliver’s family and required Bornac to be of good behaviour in custody and for nine months after his release. Defence counsel said Bornac was ashamed, had no logical explanation for the attack and had consumed two beers; he had no previous or subsequent adverse attention.
