Stardust families remember William, George and Marcella McDermott

William, George and Marcella McDermott were remembered at Dublin Coroner’s Court on 11 May 2023, during an inquest into the Stardust fire.

Their sisters presented accounts of their lives and described the family’s loss after the three died in the fire at the Stardust nightclub in Artane on 14 February 1981.

June McDermott told the jury: “The dead cannot cry out for justice. It is the duty of the living to do so for them.”

Selina McDermott presented Marcella’s pen portrait and described the family’s grief. In a statement read on the family’s behalf, she said the State’s failure to apply the law or properly investigate the deaths had made closure impossible.
