Sinead O’Connor keeps defence in contract and defamation case

By Cathal Brosnan

This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.

Sinead O’Connor kept her defence in a High Court contract and defamation case on 27 July 2017 after the Master, Edmond Honohan, declined to strike it out. Former manager Fachtna O’Ceallaigh and TAL Management Limited brought the claims, with more than €500,000 sought for alleged breach of contract.

O’Connor denied that she had an agreement with O’Ceallaigh or TAL as alleged, or that they were entitled to damages. She also denied the allegation that she defamed him.

The Master granted O’Connor and her legal team a further three months to comply with a discovery order. He suggested that O’Ceallaigh could progress the actions without discovery from O’Connor, and said the court hearing the cases could take its own view of any failure to provide the materials.
