Sinead Branagh has sued Zutec Inc Ireland Ltd in an attempt to prevent her removal as chief executive, over the purported appointment of another person without prior notice to her. The proceedings were reported on 24 February 2016.
At the High Court, Mr Justice Paul Gilligan granted her lawyers permission to serve short notice of the proceedings on the company and returned the matter to later that week.
Mark Connaughton SC, representing Branagh, said she had been chief executive since May 2015, was a five per cent shareholder and had worked for the company since its inception in 1999. Counsel said she had been told the previous month that someone else had been made chief executive.
Counsel said that, through no fault of his client, she had been put in a prison in the United Arab Emirates for five days in June 2015. He said this was because, it was claimed, the company had failed to satisfactorily terminate its business relationship with its UAE-based partner and local partner. She had since been on sick leave while working from home, counsel said.
