Shoaib Hamid was sentenced for assault causing harm at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court to two and a half years, suspended in full, as reported on 1 December 2016. The attack happened outside a mosque in Fonthill Retail Park on 19 June 2015, after a dispute during prayers.
The victim suffered several cuts and a permanent scar after Hamid struck him with a carpet knife. Judge Melanie Greally said the attack risked serious disfigurement or death but found it was out of character for Hamid.
