Sergey Chesnokov wins order to register Dublin birth

By Niamh Kearney

This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.

Sergey Chesnokov won an order in the High Court directing registration of his birth in Ireland on 24 July 2015.

Chesnokov had applied to have his birth registered in Ireland, saying he was born in Dublin in 1940 and needed to remain involved in his Irish grandchild’s life.

The Registrar had refused the application, citing insufficient evidence, but the court assessed the record and found in Chesnokov’s favour.

The documents included a Russian birth certificate, marriage certificate, passport and declarations supporting his account.
