This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.

Sergey Chesnokov lost his Irish citizenship bid when the Court of Appeal overturned the High Court ruling, reported on 3 February 2017. The court found the evidence did not establish that he was born in Dublin and vacated the order directing registration of his birth.

The three-judge court unanimously upheld the Registrar General’s appeal against the decision that Chesnokov had established his birth on Dublin’s Henrietta Street in September 1940.

The court also found that his challenge to the Registrar General’s refusal to register his birth had been brought out of time. The matter was adjourned for a week while the parties considered the decision.
