This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.

Sean Murphy is on trial for murder at the Central Criminal Court, with Ms Justice Mary Ellen Ring presiding. The proceedings were reported on 20 November 2023.

He has pleaded not guilty to murdering Michael Olohan, who was stabbed at the apartment they shared on St Lawrence Road on 13 August 2020.

Consultant psychiatrist Dr Ronan Mullaney told prosecution counsel that Murphy was acutely psychotic and unable to refrain from the killing. Professor Keith Rix disagreed, saying Murphy was able to resist stabbing Olohan, as he had done on previous nights.

The report said the trial was continuing and would resume the following day. It reported no verdict or sentence.
