Sean Jackson’s five-year sentence for assault causing serious harm was upheld by the Court of Appeal on 4 April 2019. The original attack happened in the smoking area of Ardlea Inn, Dublin 5, on 23 August 2014.
Jackson had pleaded not guilty, saying he had no memory because of intoxication, but a jury found him guilty. The appeal court dismissed his challenge, finding no error in the sentencing approach and confirming that intoxication did not excuse the offence.
