Sean Casey’s dangerous driving sentencing adjourned

By Orla Quinn

This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.

Sean Casey’s sentencing for dangerous driving causing death and serious bodily harm was adjourned by the Court of Appeal on 19 October 2015. The crash happened in Skibbereen, where Megan Johnston died and Kate Petford was left paralysed.

The court delayed deciding the penalty after receiving a letter from Ms Petford’s parents about her changed circumstances. Sentencing was adjourned until 17 November.

Casey had pleaded guilty and had previously received seven years in prison and a 30-year driving disqualification at Cork Circuit Criminal Court. His appeal court had found that sentence out of line with other decided cases.
