Sean Casey’s dangerous-driving-causing-death sentence was cut to five years, with the final 12 months suspended, by the Court of Appeal on 17 November 2015.
The case arose from a crash near Skibbereen, Co Cork, in which Megan Johnson died and Kate Petford suffered serious spinal injuries.
The court found the original seven-year sentence was out of line with other cases and reduced it after considering Casey’s guilty plea, remorse, co-operation and good character. It left a 30-year driving disqualification in place and backdated both the sentence and disqualification to the original Circuit Criminal Court order.
