This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.

Seamus Vaughan had a €120,000 settlement approved in the High Court over alleged workshop injuries. The proceedings were reported on 6 July 2017. The action concerned injuries allegedly sustained while he attended a Brothers of Charity workshop at Lacey’s Cross, Newcastle West, County Limerick.

The settlement was for €120,000 plus costs and was made without admission of liability, apart from one incident in February 2011. The claims were brought on Mr Vaughan’s behalf by his father, Patrick Vaughan, against Brothers of Charity Services Limerick Ltd and the Health Services Executive.

Counsel for Mr Vaughan said liability had been admitted for an incident in which he fell at the workshop and lost two teeth. All other claims were denied.

Mr Justice Anthony Barr approved the settlement after considering difficulties in proving liability, including that Mr Vaughan could not give evidence and there were no witnesses to the alleged incidents.
