Seamus Marley was refused more time to appeal his rape and sexual assault convictions by the Court of Appeal on 30 July 2020.
The convictions concerned two boys abused in Co Louth during the early 1990s.
A Central Criminal Court jury found Marley guilty of six sexual assaults and two rapes after a six-day trial in May 2019.
He was sentenced to seven years in prison, but lodged his appeal outside the required 28-day period.
The appeal court said the delay and proposed grounds showed no reason to expect the challenge could succeed.
