Scott O’Connor’s sentence for violent disorder and threatening students with a knife was increased by the Court of Appeal, reported on 5 April 2022.
The court quashed his five-year sentence, which had included three years suspended, and reduced the suspended portion to two years, adding one year to the time he must serve. The offences occurred outside a student house on Bandon Road in Cork city on 16 January 2020.
The court said O’Connor armed himself with a knife and encouraged violence, and that he was not under threat. It found his culpability high and said the original sentence suspended too much of the five-year term.
