Scott O’Connor jailed for knife offences after appeal succeeds

By Donal Gilhooly

This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.

Scott O’Connor’s five-year sentence, with three years suspended, was changed to five years with two years suspended by the Court of Appeal in a judgment delivered on 5 April 2022.

The change followed the State’s appeal against his sentence for violent disorder and producing a knife to intimidate another person outside a house party on Bandon Road, Cork, on 16 January 2020.

The court said O’Connor had armed himself with a knife and encouraged violence, and found that his culpability was high because he was not under threat.

The court reduced the suspended portion of the sentence by one year, increasing the time O’Connor must serve in prison by that amount.
