This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.

Sandra Higgins pleaded not guilty to intentionally or recklessly causing serious harm to a baby at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court, reported on 19 June 2015. The alleged injuries were suffered by a 10-month-old baby while she was being minded at Higgins’s home in Cavan. A consultant paediatrician told the trial that bruising on the child’s back and ear was unusual in accidental injury and consistent with non-accidental injury. A defence radiologist disputed whether the brain bleeding represented the type of injury associated with violent shaking. The trial was continuing before Judge Patricia Ryan and a jury.
