By Orla Quinn

This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.

Samuel Power’s appeal against his conviction for possession of stolen property, a caravan, was dismissed by the Court of Appeal in a judgment delivered on 20 March 2017. Mr Justice Birmingham delivered the judgment, with Birmingham J., Sheehan J. and Mahon J. listed on the panel.

Power had been convicted in Dublin Circuit Court on 29 April 2016 and sentenced to three years’ imprisonment. The appeal challenged the validity of the search warrant and other criticisms concerning the trial judge’s jury charge and remarks.

The court held that the District Court judge had jurisdiction to issue the warrant and rejected that ground of appeal. The proceedings were reported on 20 March 2017.
