Saleban Abdisahar was jailed for three years for smuggling five people into Ireland at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court on 2 March 2023.
He pleaded guilty to three counts of facilitating the illegal entry of people into the State, involving flights to Dublin Airport on 23 and 29 January and 18 February 2022.
The report said he was paid up to €1,000 for each person he successfully smuggled. The judge backdated the three-year sentence to 18 February, when Abdisahar went into custody.
The judge reduced a headline sentence of five or six years, citing Abdisahar’s early plea, cooperation with gardaí, lack of previous convictions and the unlikelihood of further offending.
