Ryanair joins Dublin Airport runway planning action

By Niamh Kearney

This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.

Ryanair joined two planning actions as a notice party at the Commercial Court on 26 June 2017, concerning a proposed €320 million runway at Dublin Airport.

The actions challenge Fingal County Council’s decision to extend permission for the 3,110-metre runway, which is planned for land north and northwest of the terminal.

Ryanair said further expansion in Dublin could be limited without the development and identified the runway as important to its growth.

The challenges allege that the permission extension breaches European Union environmental rules and the Planning and Development Act 2000.

The proceedings, together with a related action by the St Margaret’s Concerned Residents Group, were due before the Commercial Court in October.
