Ryanair apologised to Eoin Michael Cahill at the High Court on 6 February 2024 and withdrew a flight ban that it said had been incorrectly imposed. Cahill had sued the airline, claiming defamation.
The airline said Cahill had been mistakenly identified as a disruptive passenger and accepted that he was not the person involved in an altercation with its staff on 2 January. It offered to correct the record with his employer and pay €10,000 in compensation, plus legal costs as may be agreed.
After hearing arguments from both sides, Mr Justice Rory Mulcahy said Cahill was entitled to his legal costs for the injunction proceedings.
