Ryan Kelly, of Captains Road, Crumlin, Dublin, pleaded guilty to possessing a Smith and Wesson gun with five rounds of ammunition. The proceedings were reported on 8 April 2024.
The report said Kelly had hidden the revolver in a hedge across the road from his home. When a taxi arrived, he retrieved the gun and dropped it into the vehicle, where gardaí later found it in the passenger footwell.
His co-accused, Anthony Walker, of Marrowbone Lane, Dublin, drove the taxi away and was arrested after an armed intervention near the M50. Walker had also pleaded guilty and was to be sentenced at a later date.
Senior counsel Brendan Grehan said Kelly wanted to express his deep remorse for getting involved. Mr Justice Paul Burns said the Special Criminal Court would sentence Kelly in two weeks’ time.
An earlier report said both men also faced charges concerning participation in or contribution to a criminal organisation, or recklessness as to whether that participation or contribution could facilitate a serious offence. It reported that Mr Justice Tony Hunt had granted the State’s application to have the trials heard before the Special Criminal Court and adjourned the matter to 11 July 2022.
