Roy Oti was sentenced to two and a half years in prison, with the final year suspended, for theft from a catering company operating at Aviva Stadium. Judge Elma Sheahan set a four-year headline sentence at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court. The proceedings were reported on 25 February 2025.
Oti pleaded guilty to theft on dates between June and November 2022. The report said he stole €13,974. The judge noted his organising role, previous convictions for dishonesty, guilty plea and remorse.
The court heard that employees set up their own Sumup accounts and diverted some customer card payments from the cashless catering business to their own accounts. Detective Garda Shane Griffin said all parties co-operated fully with gardaí, made full admissions and entered early guilty pleas. Roy Oti’s barrister, John Moher, said his client was remorseful and hoped to make full restitution within six months.
Oti’s sister Nikkel Oti and Chidera Anago pleaded guilty to thefts over shorter periods within the same timeframe. They were to be discharged from the indictment under section 100 of the Criminal Justice Act 2006 if they each donated €750 to the Simon Community before their cases were finalised on 31 July. The judge indicated 12-month sentences for them before deciding their cases could be dealt with under section 100.
Sean Atowo pleaded guilty to a series of thefts. His case was adjourned until 26 May for a probation report. His barrister, Kevin McCrave, said Atowo entered the offending naively and used the money to visit his sister in the UK. The report also said a fifth co-accused had received a one-year suspended sentence earlier that year and a sixth was awaiting sentence.
