Ross Hutch jailed for knife attack and assault

By Tadhg O'Sullivan

This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.

Ross Hutch was sentenced to 10 years in prison at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court on 29 March 2023 for assault causing serious harm and assault causing harm. The first attack was outside a pub on Sheriff Street; he assaulted a different former girlfriend the next day at Holyhead Hostel on Gardiner Street.

The sentences were seven-and-a-half years for the knife attack on his former partner’s boyfriend and two-and-a-half years for assaulting the woman. They are to run consecutively.

The judge dismissed the defence request to defer sentencing for a psychological report, saying it would be of little or no help to the court. The 10-year sentence was backdated to 25 August 2021, when Hutch went into custody.
