The jury in the murder trial of Ross Allen retired to consider one of three verdicts. The proceedings were reported on 9 May 2016.

Ross Allen, of Kilmonaghan Lodge in Clara, pleaded not guilty to murdering Christy Daly. The body of Christy Daly was found in a ditch near his home outside Clara in January 2014. He had been beaten and shot several times.

Ross Allen was not accused of pulling the trigger. The prosecution case was that he played a role in getting two Dublin assassins involved after a bag containing €30,000 worth of drugs went missing.

The report said Ross Allen allegedly left the bag in a laneway near the caravan of Christy Daly and suspected Christy Daly of stealing it when Ross Allen returned to retrieve it on 29 December 2013.

The jury could find Ross Allen guilty of murder, not guilty of murder but guilty of manslaughter, or not guilty. The report also said the DPP had dropped the murder charge against Matthew Gralton the previous week.
