Ronan Cunningham was jailed for three years for dangerous driving causing death by the Court of Criminal Appeal on 1 May 2014. The offence happened on the N7 Naas dual carriageway at Rathcoole on 10 October 2010, when he drove the wrong way and collided with another car. He was also banned from driving for 15 years.

Cunningham had previously received a five-year suspended sentence, which the appeal court overturned as too lenient. He had admitted the offence and driving while under the influence of alcohol, and was given a week before the sentence took effect.
