Robert Moran's aggravated burglary sentence ruled too lenient

By Donal Gilhooly

This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.

Robert Moran’s aggravated burglary sentence was ruled unduly lenient by the Court of Appeal on 22 June 2015. The court reviewed his five-year sentence, with the final two years suspended, for three aggravated burglaries committed in Limerick.

Moran had pleaded guilty to the offences, and the sentences were imposed in May 2011. The Director of Public Prosecutions argued that insufficient weight had been given to aggravating factors, the impact on the injured party and Moran’s offending history.

The Court of Appeal held that the sentence represented a substantial departure from the appropriate sentence and allowed the appeal.

This report covers an earlier stage of the case. Later developments are not reported here.
