Robert Maguire was ordered to undergo a community service suitability assessment at the Central Criminal Court, reported on 6 March 2017, after pleading guilty to assault causing harm and false imprisonment.
The offences arose from an attack on his former partner in her Dublin home on 14 January 2012. Mr Justice Paul Butler said the assault was very serious but ordered the Probation Service assessment after defence counsel argued that community service could better serve society. Maguire remained on bail until 22 May, when sentence was due to be imposed.
