Renato Gehlen was sentenced to life imprisonment for murdering his wife at the Central Criminal Court on 22 October 2021. He stabbed Anne Colomines at their Dublin home on 25 October 2017, after a jury rejected his claim that her wounds were self-inflicted. The court heard that Colomines had suffered four stab wounds, including a 22cm throat wound, and cuts to her hands consistent with defensive injuries. Gehlen had pleaded not guilty, but the jury found him guilty the previous month. Mr Justice Michael McGrath described the killing as horrific, terrifying and completely senseless before imposing the mandatory life term.
