After Wayne Cooney shot Jordan Davis in Darndale on 22 May 2019, he fled on a bicycle to a bus stop near Clarehall Shopping Centre. Rachel Redmond arranged to collect him in a friend’s car, then paid for him to stay at the Clayton Hotel near Dublin Airport that night.

A jury convicted Redmond in March 2025 of attempting to impede Cooney’s apprehension or prosecution while knowing or believing he had committed murder. At trial, Redmond said she did not know Cooney had committed a crime when she drove him away and later booked the hotel room.

At sentencing, Mr Justice Paul Burns said Redmond chose to assist Cooney and helped him lie low while important forensic evidence could have been gathered. He set a six-year headline sentence on each count, reduced that to five years to run concurrently, and suspended the final year for three years. Redmond was jailed for four years.
