Philip Murphy was jailed for 15 years for repeatedly raping and sexually abusing his half-brother and two girls he babysat between 1994 and 1998. He was convicted at the Central Criminal Court of 15 counts of rape and sexual assault. Murphy continues to deny the offences.
Sentencing him, Mr Justice Paul Burns described Murphy as a dangerous sexual predator and said he represented an ongoing danger to society. The judge ordered the 15-year sentence to run from the sentencing date and imposed 10 years of post-release supervision. He said he had considered whether the term should begin after Murphy’s existing sentence.
Murphy was aged between 13 and 17 during the offending. The judge said he would have seriously considered a life sentence had Murphy been an adult at the time. Murphy is serving a 10-year sentence for two random sex attacks on women in Dublin city centre.
