This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.

Philip Cox’s attempted murder charge was dropped at the Central Criminal Court on 18 December 2024, after the State entered a nolle prosequi.

The charge arose from an alleged attack at York Street Flats in Dublin 2 on 1 December 2022. Cox had pleaded not guilty to attempted murder and guilty to assault causing harm, aggravated burglary and producing a knife. The second jury had failed to agree a verdict; a jury in the first trial also failed to reach a verdict. The judge said the court could proceed to sentencing on the three guilty pleas, and listed a sentence hearing for 20 January 2025.

At that later hearing, Cox was remanded in custody until 24 March, when he was due to be sentenced.
