Peter Redmond gave evidence at Dublin District Coroner’s Court on 12 October 2023 about the 1981 Stardust nightclub fire. Another witness, David Bell, said he saw the main doors locked ten minutes before the fire began.

Redmond said carpet tiles on the walls had seemed wrong to him from the first time he saw them. He described seeing flames climb the wall and smoke fill the club.

He said he tried to return for his friend but a bouncer stopped him, saying the doors had to remain closed because everyone was out. The inquest was due to continue the following Monday in the Rotunda Hospital’s Pillar Room.
