This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.

The Special Criminal Court ordered counsel for David Cullen in the Peter Butterly murder trial, reported on 25 November 2014. The court assigned senior and junior counsel to advise Cullen on legal professional privilege during his cross-examination. Butterly was shot dead at the Huntsman Inn car park in Gormanston, County Meath, on 6 March 2013.

The three-judge, non-jury court also ordered that extracts from Cullen’s trial evidence be given to his legal team. Lawyers for the three accused objected to releasing the transcript, while the trial continued before Ms Justice Deirdre Murphy, Ms Justice Margaret Heneghan and Judge Cormac Dunne.

This report covers an earlier stage of the case. Later developments are not reported here.
