Paul Hendrick was sentenced to four years in prison, with the final six months suspended, for indecently assaulting a pupil. Judge Pauline Codd sentenced him at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court on 10 July 2023.
Hendrick pleaded guilty to 11 counts of indecently assaulting Kenneth Grace. The offences took place at locations in Dublin, Tipperary and Waterford between May 1980 and July 1984. Eleven other counts were taken into consideration.
Judge Codd said the offending involved a significant breach of trust and caused lifelong psychological harm. She said Hendrick had shown shame and insight, but that this did not excuse the abuse.
The final six months of the sentence were suspended on condition that Hendrick continue recommended treatment under Probation Service supervision.
