Paul Carew's eight-year money laundering sentence upheld

This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.

Paul Carew's eight-year sentence for money laundering was upheld by the Court of Appeal on 25 March 2019. The sentence followed offences involving cash recovered in Dublin during 2016 and 2017.

The court dismissed Carew's appeal against the severity of the sentence and affirmed the order made by Dublin Circuit Criminal Court. The original sentence was imposed on 15 March 2018 and backdated to 24 June 2017.

The judgment said the offences were committed while Carew was serving a three-year suspended sentence for a similar money-laundering offence. It held that the global sentence was proportionate and no longer than the offences objectively merited.
