Patrick Quirke’s murder trial had no verdict at the Central Criminal Court on 30 April 2019, after the jury was sent home to return for another day. Quirke had pleaded not guilty to murdering Bobby Ryan, whose body was found at Fawnagown, Tipperary, in 2013.
The jury had deliberated for 18 hours and 24 minutes after a 13-week trial and a week of closing speeches. The prosecution alleged that Quirke killed Ryan so he could rekindle an affair with Mary Lowry, while the defence argued that the case had not been proved beyond reasonable doubt.
Justice Eileen Creedon asked the six men and six women to return to the Central Criminal Court for an eighth day of deliberations.
