Patrick Purcell's drugs sentence appeal dismissed
This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.
Patrick Purcell’s appeal against a nine-year sentence for possessing drugs for sale or supply was dismissed by the Court of Appeal on 26 April 2018. The sentence included two years suspended, following his guilty plea to possessing ketamine and cocaine linked to storage and distribution in Straffan, County Kildare, and Chapelizod, Dublin.
The court held that the sentence was within the available range and that the sentencing judge had properly considered mitigation, including Purcell’s guilty plea, admissions and personal circumstances. It also found substantial reasons for the different sentences imposed on his co-accused.
