Patrick Kelly, a Taekwon-Do instructor, was jailed for two years for sexually assaulting two teenage girls. Judge Melanie Greally imposed the sentence at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court on 29 July 2020 and ordered it to begin that day.
Kelly pleaded guilty to assaulting the first teenager by forcibly kissing her and grabbing her bottom. Those offences took place on unknown dates in mid-2014. He also pleaded guilty to assaulting the second teenager by grabbing her bottom, placing a hand on her bottom and kissing her neck. Those offences took place on unknown dates between July 2011 and July 2012.
The report said Kelly pleaded guilty on the morning of his trial. The proceedings were reported on 29 July 2020.
Kelly was already serving a nine-year sentence, imposed in December 2017, for sexual assault and exploitation of two children. He was also serving a consecutive four-year sentence, imposed the previous month, for rape, sexual assault and exploitation of a girl he had groomed.
Judge Greally said the offences before her were less serious than those dealt with previously but had a devastating impact on both women. She described the offences as a gross breach of trust, noted Kelly's guilty plea and cooperation with gardaí, and took account of a five-year post-release supervision order imposed at the previous month's Central Criminal Court sentencing.
