This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.

Patrick Hutch Junior was remanded in custody on a murder charge at Cloverhill District Court on 25 May 2016. The charge concerns the death of David Byrne at Dublin’s Regency Hotel on 5 February. Hutch, of Champions Avenue in Dublin 1, had been brought before Dublin District Court on 18 May and charged with murder. He has not indicated how he will plead.

A detective sergeant told the court that the Director of Public Prosecutions had directed trial on indictment and was deciding whether to issue a certificate for the Special Criminal Court. The book of evidence had not yet been prepared. Hutch consented to an adjournment and was remanded until 22 June.

The district court could not grant bail because of the nature of the charge, and any bail application would have to be made to the High Court.

This report covers an earlier stage of the case. Later developments are not reported here.
