Patrick Connors admitted an endangerment charge at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court and was remanded in custody for sentence in April. The proceedings were reported on 8 March 2017.
Connors pleaded guilty to endangerment creating a substantial risk of death or serious harm to another at Swords Road, Dublin, on September 19th. He also admitted possessing stolen laptops and jewellery, and having a screwdriver intended for use in a theft. The report said he drove at more than 160km/h on the wrong side of a busy road, went the wrong way around a roundabout, exceeded 100km/h on a road limited to 50km/h, ran a red light and collided with a taxi. Garda Keith Cassidy told prosecuting counsel Fiona McGowan that the stolen items had been taken during a burglary in Northern Ireland earlier that morning. Defending, Ronan Prendergast said Connors had previously become clean from heroin use before relapsing after relatives died in the Carrickmines fire, and that he had been living in a car. Judge Patricia Ryan ordered a Probation Service report.
