Owen Cummins was sentenced to nine years and six months, with the final 18 months suspended, at the Special Criminal Court on 3 March 2020 for possessing a Beretta handgun and silencer. The firearm was found in circumstances giving rise to a reasonable inference that it was not held for a lawful purpose at Jamestown Road, Inchicore, Dublin.
The three-judge court heard that Cummins had pleaded guilty and had driven a vehicle towards gardaí during the incident. The sentence was backdated to 27 May 2019, when he went into custody.
Mr Justice Tony Hunt said the headline sentence was 12 years before mitigation, including the guilty plea, reduced it to nine years and six months.
