Ove Arup was fined €750,000 for workplace safety breaches at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court, reported on 26 June 2023.

The company had pleaded guilty to two breaches after John McCann died in a 24-metre fall at its Ringsend Road, Dublin 4 premises on 23 September 2019.

At an inquest reported on 28 August 2024, a Dublin District Coroner’s Court jury returned a verdict of death by misadventure in McCann’s death.

The inquest heard that the fragile floor hazard had been identified 15 months before the fall, but control measures were not reviewed or communicated to subcontractors and staff.
