Onkar Singh was among four men who appeared at Dublin District Court after gardaí allegedly discovered 426kg of cannabis, valued at €8.5 million, at a storage unit in Ballymount. The proceedings were reported on 14 October 2024.
The court heard that the lock-up was allegedly rented by a transnational organised crime group for the onward distribution of drugs. The report said the four men had been arrested on the preceding Friday and that the storage unit’s operator was unaware the drugs were kept there.
Detectives told Judge John Cheatle that the defendants made no reply when charged with unlawful possession of cannabis and possession of cannabis for sale or supply.
Singh, described as an Indian national with an address in the Netherlands, applied for bail. Judge Cheatle refused it because of the seriousness of the charges and Singh’s lack of ties to the State. The four defendants were due to appear at Cloverhill District Court on the following Friday.
