Oliver Callely ordered community service for firework offence

By Ruairí Dolan

This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.

Oliver Callely was ordered to complete 240 hours of community service instead of a two-year prison sentence at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court on 21 February 2020, after pleading guilty to igniting fireworks. He lit the firework at Copper Face Jacks nightclub on Harcourt Street in Dublin on 6 July 2015, and it became lodged between a man’s arm and body.

Judge Karen O’Connor said the act was reckless but not a targeted attack, and ordered the community service over 12 months. The court heard the injured man attended a burns unit eight times over the following two months and did not want Callely imprisoned.
