A Dublin coroner’s jury returned a verdict of misadventure in Oleksandr Kondrashyn’s death at Dublin District Coroner’s Court on 29 November 2024. He drowned after falling from a container ship at Dublin Port.

The inquest heard that Kondrashyn fell into the water while trying to return to his ship in the early hours of 12 January 2018. A crew member had advised him to wait for a gangway, but he and another man climbed over the ship’s rail.

The jury delivered the verdict after hearing evidence about the fall and efforts to recover him from the water. A separate investigation cited safety attitudes among the ship masters as the root cause of his death.
