Dr Oisín Powell secured temporary injunctions in the High Court over his alleged unlawful contract termination, in a report dated 12 December 2014. The emergency medicine consultant had worked at Beacon Hospital since 2010 under fixed-term contracts. The orders prevented anyone else being appointed to his position and restrained the hospital from announcing that his employment had ended or that he was unfit or unable to provide services. The injunctions were granted on an ex parte basis and were due to return the following week. His counsel said Powell’s hours had been reduced from 35 to 20 a week before he was informed that his contract would be terminated.
