North Dublin residents refused appeal in runway challenge

This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.

North Dublin residents were refused permission to appeal in the High Court on 14 February 2018 over a challenge to Dublin Airport’s proposed second runway. The €320 million project would be 3,110 metres long and cover 261 hectares north and north-west of the existing terminals.

Mr Justice Max Barrett said the residents had not raised points of exceptional public importance, which were required for permission to appeal. The residents had argued that the development was unlawful and that Fingal County Council had failed to address its effect on their homes and lands.

The residents may apply to the Supreme Court to hear an appeal. Separately, the St Margaret’s Concerned Residents Group and the Dublin Airport operator were ordered to pay their own costs in another unsuccessful challenge.
