Noel McKeon’s sexual assault sentence upheld on appeal

By Gráinne Nolan

This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.

Noel McKeon’s 16-year sentence, with the final two years suspended, for violent sexual assaults against two sex workers was upheld by the Court of Appeal, reported on 26 July 2021.

The appeal concerned offences arising from separate incidents in June 2016 and February 2018. The court held that consecutive sentences were permissible for different victims and that the sentencing judge had properly applied the totality principle. It dismissed the challenge, finding the sentence proportionate to extremely grave, violent offending and the mitigation already allowed.
