Nicholas Wickham disqualified for seven years over alleged Ponzi scheme

Nicholas Wickham was disqualified from company directorships for seven years by the High Court in a ruling on 10 July 2023, after Mr Justice Brian O’Moore found repeated misrepresentation to investors in a gold and silver investment company.

The liquidator of Irish Gold and Silver Bullion Limited believed the company had defrauded customers and operated as a Ponzi scheme. The company had an address in Monkstown, south Co Dublin.

The judge said Wickham pooled customer money intended for precious-metal investments with company funds; by the liquidator’s appointment there was no metal stock, and the company’s bank account held €3,900.

The judge said Wickham’s £310,000 payment to the liquidator formed part of the settlement and was among the mitigating factors that reduced the disqualification period from a 14-year headline sanction. The liquidator’s proceedings had settled, and earlier court orders were lifted.
