Niall Colgan received a fully suspended one-year sentence for possessing child abuse material at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court, reported on 7 May 2024.

Colgan pleaded guilty to possessing two videos and two images at his Dublin 12 home on 1 February 2022.

Judge Martin Nolan described the offence as serious but said the quantity was at the lower end of cases before the court.

The judge cited Colgan’s previous good character, family support and engagement with services when suspending the sentence in full on strict conditions. Colgan was also placed on the sex offenders register for five years.
